The Autism Spectrum is a term used to describe a condition that comes in many varieties, in which one has a brain that functions in a way that exhibits restricted/repetitive patterns of behaviour, interests, and activities. Those within the Autism Spectrum tend to perceive the world/individuals/society around them in a unique manner, one that most neurotypical Individuals (and even some neurodivergent Individuals) cannot fully understand/relate to.

Designed by Wikipedia user Neurodivergent Elephant on 22nd December 2021, the Autistim Pride Flag features a gold middle band which refers to the elemental symbol of gold, ‘Au’ in the periodic table and is popular amongst the autistic community. The gradient tones resemble other Pride movement flags, referencing the LGBT+ community who began flying the rainbow colour tones in 1978. But the red gradient is depicted as a protest to the ‘light it up blue’ campaign that was created by controversial organisation Autism Speaks – who are denounced by autistic activists.

To complete the flag, and using colour theory the green gradient compliments the red gradient which can also be traced to the original Autism Pride Flag that had the colours red, blue and green. But this new flag design is the strongest yet, as it features the gradient that represents the colour gold, with an accompanying infinity symbol – another popular sign of the autistic community.
